LaBr3 Introduction:
Lanthium bromide crystals (LaBr3(Ce)) are relatively new to the industry and is one of the newest generation of inorganic scintillators. LaBr3(Ce) crystals are inorganic alkali metal bromide crystals grown in high temperature furnaces. Although not yet as widely used as NaI(TI) or CsI(Tl) crystals they are showing remarkable promise in nuclear medicine, environmental measurements, security geophysics, and medium-energy physics.
The LaBr3(Ce) Advantage:
Simply put, when properly housed in a hermetically sealed and specially designed stainless steel casing designed to withstand vibration, shock and issues associated with temperature expansion LaBr3(Ce)crystals out perform NaI(Tl) crystals and make remarkable scintillators.
LaBr3(Ce) has higher efficiency and temperature stability than NaI(Tl), offer better resolution than NaI(Tl) by outperforming regular NaI(Tl) by a factor of 2:
